Why we don't need more vampires
So you want to be a special character, no? A vampire, dark creature of the night, cursed by Molag Bal, forsaken by Stendarr? The eternal struggle against the beast, while you try to cling on to your humanity?
Or maybe you were chosen by Hircine? The thrill of the hunt, the pack, and a slight smell of wet dog?
That's nice. It's almost like playing a Bosmer. Or a Redguard. Or some other minority. Being a minority does not make an interesting character. In fact, as soon as the Telvanni have listened to the story of how you got turned, they will try to work you into a potion or burn you to ashes for Meridia's summoning day.
If you are a walking bundle of ingredients, best be a special one - be interesting.
Don't be a stereotype.
But I'm a pureblood vampire, a child of Coldharbour! I was raped by the Lord of Domination and Brutality himself!
Well - bad news. We already have two of those. One of them being one of the oldest characters in our setting, the other one being an NPC. Please consider playing something else. You'd be nothing special anymore, and being #3 would make all your characters a support group that would be frequently ridiculed. You don't want that.
Let me illustrate what I'm talking about by giving you an example talk that has actually happened.
Random guy: "Hi. I'm a werewolf."
Telvanni: "Ah, how peculiar."
Random guy (irritated about the lack of reaction): "I'm looking for the one who turned me."
Telvanni: "Was it a member of the Great House?"
Random guy: "Err... no."
Telvanni: "Then what's the reason why you came here?"
Random guy: "... I should go."
Please do not make any more vampire characters.
We really have enough of those.
