Unlike many Dunmer, Zalak does not hold himself above any other races deciding to leave that to the many Altmer mages he says strutting around. Zalak enjoys showing his skill in illusion or destruction magic which he is a master of both but never less he still practises regularly his magic, it would not be good if he could not do the spells and techniques he taught anymore .He is willing to help those who come to him for aid in any way he can, even if it sometimes put himself danger. The joy of teaching so many mages though can make him stubborn and blunt towards people especially when he is teaching magic as he does not like people distracting him.

Most often than not he prefers his own company to the company others, he is most often seen on the balcony of the mages guild smoking his pipe which many of the mages dislike the smell of.  He normally smokes to relax though he also uses it as an exercise for himself on control by lighting it with a purple flame.

When he is in lessons or outside them with the students or student he is in charge of, he will tend to look after them very well. As in helping them out with non guild problems, teaching them to read and write in his own time. However he does not have patience for those who make trouble for him in his lessons and tends to give them his own forms of punishment though all of them are designed to teach something. The one he uses the most often involves levitating a stone and keeping at eye level for as long as they can while he tried to break their concretion in any way he can. This way teaching both control and the importance of concreting on a spell.

Born into the great dunmeri house Telvanni, Zalak was raised from an early age to be a mage of their house. Most of his childhood was spent being taught by the finest teachers that his house could give him so he could be one of the best mages of his house. Though he was taught in all the schools of magic by his teachers, he could only grasp two schools of magic which he could master which were illusion and destruction magic.

Many of his teachers though thought that Zalak’s skill being in destruction magic was more important than his skill in illusion magic. During his magic training though he started to get thrown into house Telvanni’s politics which he depised, he had only one interest in life which was becoming a master mage.

After many years of training with his house, Zalak helped his house in their political matters despite his hatred of them. However though he had a grasp some of the political disputes of his house including his house’s use of slavery towards Argonians or khajiits, which ended up with an attempt on his life which made him question if it was worth continuing this path in his life.

Zalak discovered though that the mages guild were looking for members, so after careful planning try to make that no member of his house found it, he planned to travel to the imperial city to join the mages guild. On a cloudly night Zalak readied himself to leave but one of his teachers, master Erebil was waiting for him. he was furious with zalak’s plan to leave them and what he planned to do with the mages guild. Zalak told him that he would not live his life under the power of his superiors nor would he take any part of their politics. He pushed past Erebil to leave, but ice formed around his legs to stop him from moving. In anger zalak hurled a fire ball right into Erebil’s face yelling at him that he was no longer a child as he was thrity five at the time. With ice fading he ran into the night hearing his teacher’s screams as the fire consumed his flesh.
It took zalak months to get to the imperial city as he tried to avoid his kins men as news of his leaving was spreading throughout Morrowind. Zalak travelled alone by foot through morrowind with only a raven who he named Vivec to keep him company. When he did finally arrive at the imperial city, his feet were nothing but blisters so with the last of his money to heal his feet so he would not walk with an lip.

To his annoyance the mages guild insisted he learnt from one of their master mages. Many of the teachers though at the imperial mages guild were Altmer who considered themselves better than he was due to him being a Dunmer. None of them chose him to be their apperitance until one of them was told to teach him or he would be sent to Blackmarsh to teach arognaians. So Zalak spent the next two years being taught by a very annoyed Altmer mage called Melrond who tried his upmost to make Zalak leave the guild and return home. During his lessons he meet a Dunmer lady who taught illusion and restoration magic named Vaynivah who developed a close friendship with.

Zalak finished his training from Melrond who was highly disappointed by the fact he did not leave. Most of this time his family left him alone until he took up a position as a teacher of illusion and destruction magic while continuing his own mastery of his own skills. He received a letter from his family telling that he was not welcome back in their ranks and that they would try and end his life so no one would know his stain on their family.

Despite his house attempts to end his life he continued his teaching for many years while falling in love with Vaynivah ending with their marriage. Many of the Altmer mages hated him for remaining and the fact that his method of teaching was different to theirs as he tended to do more physical exercises than theory work like for example he would make them leviate a rock to eye level and keep it there while he did his upmost to distract them. Though his methods were different he managed to teach several good mages.

Zalak also started to smoke from a pipe during this time to calm his nerves. He was introduced to it by one of his bosmeri students and has continued to do it to this day though he smokes more than he used to due to stress.  He also developed a rivalry with the Altmer teacher of destruction Severus who wanted to prove he was better than he was and he was jealous of his friendship with Vanus Galerion. Also he had been named a master in his schools  of magic, illusion and destruction before he did.

He spent twenty years teaching while raising his son and training as a mage alongside his fellow students.  Though a tragedy fell upon him when he found his soon dead down a back stair of the arcane university with a dagger in his throat, he was devastated by his son’s death. He mourned for many months and became very depressed amongst his fellow mages. However a few months later he arrived late to see the new apprentice, his eyes widen with surpress at the new hopeful student. He was short and thin, covered in rags which did not deserve to be called a robe, Zalak could not believe that this boy was an Altmer.

When none of the other mages chose this Altmer boy for their apprentice, remembering what it was like when someone was forced to teach him so he took the boy as his apprentice much to surprise of many of his colleagues. The apprentice’s name was Alandril who was very nervous of his Dunmer master.

For the next few months he instructed Alandril in magic along with teaching how to read and write since he had no idea how to do so. During this time Zalak developed a fatherly affection towards the boy. Waking up from his sleep one day, he discovered that Alandril had gone missing knowing that Alandril had no known family for him to runaway to. So Zalak planned to leave the guild to find him which he eventually did.

Zalak travelled to many places following rumours that often and not tended to lead him to nothing. Eventually he arrived in the Altmer homeland of summerset when he followed a rumour that the Thalmor had been training orphaned Altmer children in dangerous magic. During his journey to the Thalmor’s base, he decided to stay with an Altmer family in their farm to rest for the night. He was enjoying a cup of wine, when one of his hosts who had gone outside to investigate a mysterious light that appeared outside their farmhouse.  When his host returned, he was carrying an unconscious Alandril in his arms much to the surprise of Zalak.

He was shocked by the state Alandril was in covered in blood, almost skeletally thin and deathly pale from blood loss. Seeing that Alandril was not going to survive with immediate healing, Zalak used some of his magic to keep Alandril alive while he used his magic to teleport them both back to their home so Alandril could get the magic that he needed. After Alandril had recovered enough to tell him what had happened Zalak was horrified by what had happened and how much damage they had done to him.

When Alandril had fully recovered Zalak resumed his training impressed with his new found skill in magic. Zalak was pleased with how Alandril was progressing and he was also helping to overcome what the Thalmor had done to him, along with coming to terms with the many scars that his torture had given to him. sadly though when Alandril was  elven, Zalak was taken from the arcane university’s library while reading a book.

For five long years he spent in darkness and in shadow. Zalak was used in vile experiments which changed him for the rest of his life. Their experiments left Zalak with mysterious tattoos over his body and was set lose upon the world after their experiments on him was done.

Zalak’s wife, Vaynivah had been mourning his death. She was tasked to join a group of members of the fighter’s guild in a hunt for a feral question that had been killing and devouring villager’s animals in the south of Cyrodiil.  Vaynivah managed to confront the creature only to discover that the creature was Zalak who had almost gone completely feral. His hair was long and mattered, his tattoos glowing purple along with his eyes as she embraced him. Due to his almost feral nature he had no idea who anyone was at all due to his state of mind.

They took him back to the guild to recover it took him awhile to regain his senses to teach again. He was sadden by the fact that he had unable to finish Alandril’s training with the guild but when he was well enough again he took up teaching again.

He continued to teach until the day the mages guild was attacked when Cyrodiil fell. He fought alongside his students, his wife and fellow masters in magic against the worm cultists and their Daedric allies. They were overrun due to a traitor in there ranks, killing the mages who kept wards up to keep them save from the undead who were trying to kill them all.

Seeing that there was no hope of defeating them he tried to escape with his wife and friends but sadly his friends died. His wife also died in his arms as he tried disparately to use his limited skill with healing to save her life with her last words being to him was to flee. Using his magic to create an illusion that to all who looked upon made him look like a woman cutlist for one of the things that the experiments had done to him had given more power to do master level spells without causing himself to much pain.

Managing to escape the imperial city, Zalak had a choice to make, where would he go now that the imperial city was almost competley destroyed. To what he could see he had only a few options, go back to house Telvanni, travel to daggerfal or to dominion lands so he could remain in the guild. He decided to travel to dominion lands to remain teaching in the mages guild as he hoped that it would be far enough away from his family who had been trying to kill him on and off for years while he was in Cyrodiil.

Upon reaching the frist branch of the mages guild in dominion lands, he looked at a list of all the places that the mages guild had a branch in. He chose to go the branch in Woodhearth, Greenshade due to the fact it was quieter than all the others and from what he had gathered would benefit from his skill more than any other branch. So he started his long travel down to Woodhearth to teach any their that wished to learn illusion or destruction magic from him.
